A WORKING party has been set up to try and tackle the problem of overnight camping across Falmouth during the summer.

At a meeting of Falmouth Town Council last week, Cllr Laurie Magowan told fellow councillors that there had been an increase in overnight camping during the summer across Falmouth, but predominantly along Cliff Road, Boscawen Road and Pendennis Point.

He said he had been in conversation with several residents and officers about the challenges and opportunities that creates.

He said he had put himself forward to organise and chair a working group with Falmouth Town Council officers, members, businesses and residents to discuss some longer term solutions for some of these issues.

"Hopefully setting up a meeting in October when things have died a little bit from the summer rush," he said. "I look forward to getting people together to share ideas and get different perspectives and find some sustainable solutions for some of the overnight parking across the town."

He also said he had been talking to residents around the Pendennis Headland about longstanding concerns about speeding round the 'loop'.

He said he was setting up a Pendennis partnership between Falmouth Town, English Heritage, GLL, who run Ships and Castles, and Cornwall councillors and officers to look at setting up an action group to look at the use of green spaces and potential ownership of the car park. He said funding had also been identified for improvements on the headland.
