AN 18-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a sign was knocked over by a car outside a pizza parlour in Falmouth in the early hours of this morning.

The one-way sign outside Domino's Pizza in Killigrew Street was bent over completely and police tape was strung across the pavement blocking the route. The incident happened at around 4am. Fuel or oil spilled onto the road had been covered in sand.

The driver of the vehicle was reported to have left the scene but a badly damaged vehicle was found by police close by. The 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and possession of a controlled drug.

A badly damaged car was seen by residents in Kimberley Place with police tape on it, although it has not been confirmed that this was the vehicle involved.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said the man was currently still in police custody: "Police were called shortly before 4am today to Killigrew Street, Falmouth, following reports that a vehicle had been in collision with a road sign.

"The vehicle was reported to have left the scene and was located by police nearby.

"An 18-year-old man from Falmouth was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and possession of a controlled drug. He remains in police custody at this time."
