Cornwall has seen a sizeable drop in the number of areas reporting rises in weekly Covid cases since the weekend.

In Saturday's update 31 out of the 72 cluster areas had seen a rise in seven-day cases - ten times the number on the week before.

However in Wednesday's midweek update this number has dropped back to 19 clusters, with 52 reporting a fall week-on-week and one, Perranporth and Goonhavern, seeing no change.

The figures relate to the seven days leading up to last Friday, September 10, the most recent data available.

The 19 clusters with case rises are: Penzance Quay (26, up three), Towednack, Lelant & Carbis Bay (23, up one), Helston (43, up nine), The Lizard (25, up six), Mylor Bridge & Frogpool (19, up six), Camborne South (45, up two), St Day & Lanner (28, up seven), Redruth North (33, up three), St Agnes & Mount Hawke (36, up four), Truro West (41, up five), Truro South & Central (18, up four), Newquay West (30, up six), Trewoon, Coombe & Foxhole (21, up three), St Austell East & Carlyon Bay (45, up 16), Par (25, up two), Dobwalls, Addington & Menheniot (38, up four), Launceston (37, up ten), Camelford & Tresmeer (26, up four), Crackington & Tintagel (24, up one).

Falmouth Packet:

One of the new clusters to join the list is the Lizard Peninsula, called The Lizard on the government dashboard but actually including Mullion, St Keverne and Coverack, and the Meneage areas.

Among the areas seeing a continued week-on-week decrease is Falmouth, across its three cluster areas. It recorded a combined 37 positive test results during those seven days, compared to 85 only the week earlier.

Overall, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly recorded 1,775 cases during the seven days up to last Friday.

This was 467 fewer cases that during the preceding week, marking a 20.8% fall.

The case rate is now averaging 308.4 cases per 100,000 people, a fall on last Wednesday's 389.2 cases per 100,000 people.

Falmouth Packet:

The map shows positive cases by 'Middle Super Output Area' - the name the government gives to the break-up of larger towns and groups of neighbouring towns and villages, with groupings covering a greater area than others.

The minimum population in each area is 5,000 and the average is 7,200.

Clusters are only shown when there are three or more new cases reported at any one time.

Anywhere with between zero and two cases shows white in order to "protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure", the accompanying information states.
