At Helston Community College, we are always immensely proud of the students for the results they achieve. Over the last few years students have secured results to enable them to progress on to their chosen pathway, be that University, Further Education, apprenticeships or employment.

We are fortunate to be able to work with some incredibly talented young people and were amazed with a recent statistic which shows that there are currently more Helston students at Trinity College, Oxford than any other state College in the country!

Some university destinations over the last few years have included: Engineering at Oxford, Engineering at Warwick, Experimental Psychology at Oxford, Physics at Oxford, Modern Languages and Music at Birmingham, as well as History at Nottingham. Students have moved on to study History of Art at the prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art (University of London), Aerospace Engineering, Veterinary Science, Chemistry and Geology at the University of Bristol, as well as Sports Science at Loughborough University. The universities of Exeter and Plymouth are always popular choices, with previous Helston students currently studying Medicine, Geography, Paramedic Science and Psychology to name a few courses. Nursing, Law and Architecture are other popular courses students secure places on. Our accomplished Musical students are also always successful with their applications to conservatoires across the country.

Competition for Medical courses was even tougher this year as it is estimated that there were 20% more applicants for each place on a medicine course, so we were even more delighted when all of our potential medical students secured places.

Although local apprenticeship opportunities are harder to come by, students do move into a range of apprenticeships in the local community for example, accountancy at Bishop Fleming, and PFK Francis Clark accountants. They have also secured places at the ever popular Pendennis Shipyard, as well as other local businesses such as Raison Opticians.

Students also move directly into employment either in the local area or through the Armed Forces. The College has established a track record of providing excellent support and guidance for those students whose aspirations lie in a military pathway. Indeed our support was recently recognised by the Captain of HMS Raleigh who wrote to Mrs Natalie Williams to commend her on the quality of students who join up from Helston Community College.

It is always a real pleasure to see and congratulate when they confirm their destinations on the results days. We do remember the students fondly and hope that they keep us updated with their successes at University, on apprenticeships or in their careers.
