Two further deaths have been reported in the latest daily Covid-19 update for Cornwall, meaning there has been at least one new death every day for the past week.

Today’s daily new Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly show 275 new people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, up from 245 yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data shows a combined 1,503 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Monday, September 13, a fall from yesterday's 1,613 weekly total.

It means the weekly case rate average now stands at 261.2 cases per 100,000 people, down from 280.3 cases yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 40,923.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 30,144 new cases, down from 32,651 yesterday.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 7,400,739.

NHS England no longer provides updates at the weekend over the number of deaths in hospitals. In the most recent data, on Friday, the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic remained at 303, following deaths on September 13 and 14 respectively that were recorded in Thursday's figures from NHS England.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals' Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 239, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

The government's update, which continues to take place daily, shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 526 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, following a further rise of two in the last 24 hours.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate increased to 611 in the most recent data available. It shows that seven new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, September 3, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 164 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, down from 178 yesterday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 135,147. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Friday, September 17 a total of 48,548,506 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 44,357,108 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 436,922 with their first dose and 408,305 with their second.
