Another new death has been reported in Cornwall in the latest figures given in the government's daily coronavirus round up.

Wednesday’s daily new Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly showed 231 new people have tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data (Wednesday) shows a combined 1,447 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Thursday, September 16.

It means the weekly case rate average now stands at 251.4 cases per 100,000 people. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 41,879.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK on Wednesday shows 41,879 new cases.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 7,530,103.

In the most recent data the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic remained at 303, following deaths on September 13 and 14 respectively that were recorded in Thursday's figures from NHS England.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals' Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 239, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

The government's update, which continues to take place daily, shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 528 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, with another new death reported in Wednesday's figures.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate increased to 618 in the most recent data available. It shows that seven new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, September 3, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 166 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, down from 203 yesterday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 135,621. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Monday, September 20 a total of 48,644,692 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 44,556,005 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 437,358 with their first dose and 409,465 with their second.
