There has been a big leap in the number of daily Covid cases in Cornwall in the latest government's coronavirus round up, but no new deaths.

Thursday's daily new Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly showed 343 new people have tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, a big rise on the 231 cases yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data (Thursday) shows a combined 1,512 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Saturday, September 18.

It means the weekly case rate average now stands at 262.7 cases per 100,000 people. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 42,222.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 36,710 new cases.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 7,565,867.

In the most recent data the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic is now 304, following a death on Wednesday.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals' Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 240, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

The government's update, which continues to take place daily, shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – is now at 528 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate increased to 618 in the most recent data available. It shows that seven new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, September 3, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 182 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stands at 135,803. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Wednesday, September 22 a total of 48,674,154 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 44,600,070 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall it is 437,448 with their first dose and 409,678 with their second.
