Chamber of Commerce set up for business in Helston

The new chamber will consist of smaller businesses in the local area and allow them to come together as a group in order to ensure that companies, both smaller independent organisations, as well as larger, established companies, can come together and make their needs known to local authorities.

Owner of Local Marketing Communications and recently elected Town councillor, Gareth Looker, believes a Chamber of Commerce is the ideal vehicle to communicate their hopes and aspirations

Gareth said: "I know having spoken to people that there is an interest there, because things are happening in Helston.

"There's so much going on and it seems that it's got so much potential.

"There was a chamber of commerce, back in the day, but it kind of fizzled out around 2003, I don't know why.

"We had out first meeting about a month ago now and signed up new members, as well as getting lots of apologies from businesses who couldn't be there but were still interested.

"There does seem to be an appetite for businesses in Helston getting together."

Some of the activities planned for the new Helston Chamber of Commerce and Industry include exchanging ideas with other businesses in Helston to develop post-Covid growth strategies where the Chamber will facilitate learning from businesses in the immediate locality, but also on the bigger regional and national stage.

Gareth explained: "It’s been several years since Helston last had a forum where local businesses could compare notes on what is affecting them.

"The new Chamber of Commerce will help businesses work together to achieve success for the good of themselves and the town.

"I’d like to encourage all types of businesses from our industrial estates as well as retailers to join the Chamber.

"The resulting cross-fertilisation of ideas will add some energy to boost Helston’s image as a great place to work."

"Having spoken with several business owners and managers in Helston I believe the time is right to establish a new Chamber of Commerce that can help make our business community stronger."
