Police puppy in Cornwall needs temporary home

Bill is a 13-week-old black German Shepherd puppy who is currently going through training with the force and needs a temporary home before moving in with his handler in August next year.

D&C Police are looking for someone with experience dealing with large, energetic dogs as well as a fully enclosed garden and someone at home to look after him.

The force has also said they will provide all Bill's veterinary care, food, equipment and training.

The temporary carer will also be expected to attend fortnightly training sessions which are held in Exeter.

In an explanation on its social media page, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Could you be temporary puppy walker to trainee police dog Bill?

"Our development school is looking for a temporary home for 13-week-old Bill before he moves in with his police dog handler to begin his training in August 2022.

"Between now and then, we’re looking for a suitable applicant who has experience of looking after a large energetic dog.

"You’d need to have a fully enclosed garden and someone at home so that the puppy is never alone for more than two hours.

"You should be prepared to come to the fortnightly training sessions, usually held in Exeter.

"Ideally the home should not have another dog unless it is an older, less active dog.

"Devon & Cornwall Police will provide all veterinary care, food, equipment and training.
