PEOPLE in Falmouth are being encouraged to complete a short survey prior to a public meeting about the threatened Ships and Castles on Saturday.

Falmouth Town Council is running the survey and public meeting to gather feedback from the community in relation to Cornwall Council’s consultation on the future of Ships & Castles.

There’s a public meeting at 10.30am on Saturday morning, to be held in the Atherton Suite at the Old Post Office on the moor.

In addition there is a quick survey that that the council is encouraging as many people as possible to complete at surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ftcshipsandcastlesit

It takes just a minute or two and the council says it will really help councillors to formulate the response when they meet on October 25.

The not for profit company that runs the site, GLL, says it can no longer afford to do so after heavy losses during the pandemic, unless the county council bails them out.

Date set for public meeting to discuss future of threatened leisure centre

A public consultation has been launched with the county council saying unless a solution is found four leisure centres - Saltash, Launceston, Wadebridge and Ships and Castles in Falmouth will close on April 1.

GLL said the company had already invested £750k in Ships and Castles but it lost £243,000 in 2019 and is projected to lose £100,000 a year.

Utility bills are £250k a year because of the structure and a 25 meter pool would generate more income.

In November, after the consultation, Cornwall Council will hold meetings with groups who are putting forward proposals.

The consultation document can be found at letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/leisure
