An initiative to make fashion illustration resources easily accessible to young people has led to four school students being rewarded for their fantastic efforts in an illustration competition.

Thirty pupils took part in the seven-week competition/course run by Penryn College textiles teacher, Lorraine Aonso, and funded by The Arts Society Falmouth - who were tasked with submitting their designs using a different artistic medium each week.

The mediums included watercolour pencils, skin tone markers, pantone markers, tonal pencils, and computer-aided design - and all participants were commended for the skills demonstrated in using these resources, with students Lilly, Lucy, Ella and Katie earning awards.

After presenting the awards to pupils during a recent visit to Penryn College, Young Arts Representative, Maggie Letch, said: “The Arts Society Falmouth have been delighted to support this initiative. It has been a pleasure working with the dedicated and supportive staff at Penryn College, and I was incredibly impressed with the creative talent and artistic illustrations of the entries; all of the students should be very proud of their achievements. They are our fashion designers and illustrators of the future.”

And course leader, Miss Aonso, also praised participants for their efforts. She said: “All of the students demonstrated immense determination to take part in the competition while continuing with other work and exams. They are an inspiration to others - a huge well done to every one of them.

Additionally, Miss Aonso expressed her gratitude to The Arts Society Falmouth: “A massive thank you to everyone at The Arts Society Falmouth for all of their work. The funding for students’ resource packs and glass-engraved trophies was hugely appreciated. We are so grateful for everything they have done.”
