Cornwall has seen a fall in the number of new Covid cases being reported after yesterday's sizeable rise, but no new deaths.

Today’s daily new Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly shows 411 new people tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, a sizeable jump on the 508 yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data shows a combined 3,152 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Tuesday, October 12, up further on yesterday's weekly figure of 3,105.

The weekly case rate average has now risen to 547.7 cases per 100,000 people, up from 539.5 yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 51,755.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 45,140 new cases, up from 43,423 yesterday.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 8,449,165.

NHS England no longer updates on hospitals deaths at the weekend. In the most recent data, from Friday, the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic remained at 310.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals’ Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 246 with the last death on October 3, while at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

However, the government’s update, which continues through the weekend and shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – has risen to 543 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate increased to 641 in the most recent data available this week. It shows that seven new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, October 1, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show that 57 more people have died within 28 days of their first positive test result, down from 148 yesterday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 138,584. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Saturday, October 16 a total of 49,398,211 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 45,358,472 have had their second dose.

The Cornwall figures show 441,180 people with their first dose and 414,862 with their second.
