An East Lancashire restaurant managed to scoop an award earlier this week and has been named the ‘most wanted’ and popular in the North West.

Aroma Asian Restaurant in Burnley won ‘Most Wanted Restaurant of the Year in the North West’ at the prestigious English Curry Awards 2021.

The award ceremony, which took place in Birmingham on Tuesday (19 October), is a celebration of local businesses and the winners are chosen by members of the public.

Aroma, on Church Street in Burnley, is the only Lancashire restaurant to win an award despite 10 Lancashire businesses making it to the final.

Abdul Majeed, owner of Aroma Asian, said he and the team are “delighted” with the win.

He added: “Obviously it is a huge privilege and we are very delighted.

“We have won the best restaurant of the North West twice and now this time we have won ‘The Most Wanted Restaurant in the North West’.

“They staff are so happy with the win – it’s down to all their hard work and no doubt to the support of our customers.”

Mr Majeed added that ‘most wanted’ means “popularity” and the recognition “means that people want to visit the restaurant and go here again and again.”

Abdul explained that customers and voters were most probably impressed with the “contemporary” and “modern” heart of the restaurant.

He explained: “We have given the cuisine a modern twist so that makes us very different to others.

“I want to dedicate the award to my staff, customers and all of my regulars. Without their support it wouldn’t have happened.”

Many customers were quick to praise the restaurant for their victory.

One person said: “Very well deserved. Fabulous food”

Another wrote: Wonderful! And so well deserved! Never had a bad meal at Aroma.”

“That’s such wonderful news,” stated another. “We’ll have to come down and have a curry to celebrate.”

Irfan Younis, CEO of the company behind the award, Oceanic Consulting, said: “We are honoured and delighted to have such great finalists and winners representing the English curry industry and enhancing its reputation nationally and internationally.

“We were very happy to welcome the guests and celebrate with them. Congratulations to all finalists and winners!”
