UNFORECAST strong winds are causing chaos in Cornwall this evening with trees being brought down with reports the area is being hit by a tornado.

A great deal of activity and searchlights on the water in Falmouth is being reported some two hours after the 'tornado' struck with Falmouth lifeboat launched.#

Kernow weather team reports on their Facebook page: "We have experienced straight-line winds, possible tornado Portreath way this evening. Our Dave is has witnessed this, there is branches everywhere ripped off trees, conditions are treacherous, with flooding and torrential downpours. We will bring you more information about this in a while. Circled is the hook that has caused this."

Falmouth Packet:

Trees are reported down on Bickland Water Road and Treluswell with Penryn hit hard.

Great Western Railway have suspended the service between Penryn and Penmere due to fallen tree on the line.

A tree is reported down at Penryn Rugby Club with 'scary' wind reported down at Gylly Beach.

Kim Tregidgo in Penryn described the wind as 'biblical'.

Dina Bower reported "My gazebo took off, managed to get it back with my son, heard and almighty crack and a big tree at the back snapped off. It was like a tornado!"

A tree is reported to be blocking the road between Penryn and Mylor just after the Bisson Dip.

Winds of up to 60 mph have been reported by the Met Office.

A tree is also reported down at Kernick Road and also Falmouth Branch Line. Police are now reported to have closed Kernick Road.

Inrix traffic management site reports: "Bickland Water Road Falmouth. Bickland Water Road partially blocked due to fallen tree and visibility reduced at Bosmeor Road. Traffic is coping well."

People living in Helston are not reporting particularly strong winds so it looks isolated to one area.
