Two further Covid-related hospital deaths have been recorded in Cornwall, bringing the total to four this week.

Today's daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly shows 400 new people tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, down on the 505 reported yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data shows a combined 3,147 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Sunday, October 17, down on the 3,164 weekly total yesterday.

The weekly case rate average has now fallen to 546.8 cases per 100,000 people from 549.8 yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 53,822.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 49,298 new cases, down from 52,009 yesterday.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 8,689,949.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic has risen to 314.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals’ Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 250, with two further deaths reported - making a total of four deaths recorded this week. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

The government’s update, which shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – now stands at 550 in the 28 days since a positive Covid case following one new death in the past 24 hours.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate increased to 645 in the most recent data available this week. It shows that four new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, October 8, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show 180 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result, a rise from 115 yesterday

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 139,326. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Thursday, October 21 a total of 49,603,139 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 45,486,950 have had their second dose.

The Cornwall figures show 441,561 people with their first dose, and 415,740 their second dose.
