The number of new Covid cases being reported in Cornwall each day has continued to fall over the weekend.

Today's daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly shows 374 new people tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, down on the 395 reported yesterday.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay. The latest data shows a combined 3,084 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Tuesday, October 19, down on the 3,114 weekly total yesterday.

The weekly case rate average has now fallen to 535.9 cases per 100,000 people from 541.1 yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic is now 54,591.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 39,962 new cases, down from 44,985 yesterday.

This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 8,773,674.

NHS England no longer updates figures on hospital deaths at the weekend. In the most recent update, on Friday, the combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic rose to 314.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals’ Trust since the start of the pandemic is now 250, after four deaths recorded this week. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust it is still 64.

The government’s update, which shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – did not update on the government website yesterday. However, today it now stands at 553 death in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, a rise of three on Friday.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate increased to 645 in the most recent data available this week. It shows that four new deaths occurred in the week leading up to Friday, October 8, the most recent date given.

The overall UK figures show 72 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result, down on 135 yesterday

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 139,533. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Saturday, October 23 49,684,322 people in the UK have had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 45,542,207 have had their second dose.

In Cornwall there are 441,760 people with their first dose, and 416,128 with their second dose.
