It warns of flooding in the Helford and River Fal, with the alert in place throughout tonight and into Saturday.

The flood alert area includes The Lizard, Penryn, Falmouth, Truro, Ladock, Tresillian and Grampound.

It is the same story for the West Cornwall Rivers, with areas under alert including Lands End, Penzance, Helston, Crowlas, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Portreath and Perranporth.

The Flooding Service warns: "Flooding is possible throughout tonight, Friday, October 29, and into Saturday due to further persistent and heavy rainfall forecast.

"River levels have fallen over Friday daytime, but catchments remain saturated following the rainfall over the last 24 hours. Widespread totals forecast overnight are for 10-20mm, with up to 35mm in a few places.

"There is uncertainty over the location of the most intense rainfall. Rivers will respond quickly to this additional rainfall and flooding is possible to low lying land and roads close to rivers from 9pm on Friday evening and continuing through Saturday.

"Additional flood warnings may be issued for some locations. Surface water may be deep, especially where leaves have blocked the drains.

" Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are monitoring river levels and have staff in the area undertaking maintenance as required.

"Further unsettled weather has been forecast for the weekend."

Other areas under alert include North Cornwall Rivers (including Newquay, Padstow, Wadebridge and Sladesbridge, Bodmin, Lanivet, Boscastle and Camelford), the River Fowey (including Lostwithiel, The Glynn Valley, Trago Mills and St Neot), and St Austell and Par Rivers (including Pentewan, St Blazey, Luxulyan and Mevagissey).
