A new Covid booster jab clinic is to open in Helston from this Monday.

It is likely to be welcome new for people living both in the town and out on the Lizard Peninsula, who until recently have been forced to travel to the Royal Cornwall Hospital Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre, Wadebridge Showground or GP practice alternatives in Penzance and Camborne.

From Monday, however, boosters will be available much closer to home.

Booster vaccination clinics will be running at Helston Athletic Football Club at Kellaway Park, on Clodgey Lane, every Monday and Tuesday for the foreseeable future.

The news was confirmed by the club on its Twitter page today (Saturday), saying: "These are booster doses only, and are available online or via 119."

NHS Kernow has said that people should wait to be contacted before making an appointment. Once they have an invitation they will receive instructions on how to book.

Vaccination boosters were first given to care homes residents and frontline health and social care workers, with people over 50 now being offered them once six months has passed since their second Covid jab.

After this people aged 16 to 49 with underlying health conditions will be invited for their jabs, with adult carers and those who have contact with immunosuppressed individuals also to be prioritised for the booster.
