The team behind Falmouth's world renowned International Sea Shanty Festival have announced that the 2022 event will go ahead in its now traditionally spectacular style with even more outdoor venues and main stages.

Founder and organiser John Warren said: "Now we are all learning to live with Covid 19 and society is adapting to the new normal ,we feel the time is right for the return of this incredible festival in the knowledge that it can conform with all necessary safety measures.

We intend it to be bigger and better than ever and to serve as a welcome comeback to all the thousands of supporters who have tuned in to the virtual festivals of the last two years. Many groups have already confirmed their attendance and it promises to bring a huge boost to the town with a few big surprises planned. "

For the past two years the festival has had to be held virtually presented by Betty Stogs, John Warren, and Falmouth town manager Richard Gates, in the Cornwall Channel Studios.

The event offered a selection of live and pre-recorded performances, alongside competitions, fabulous footage of Falmouth from 3Deep Aerial, and in true shanty tradition, and raised money for the Sea Shanty’s chosen charity, the RNLI and future festivals.

For 2019, the last time it was run in the open an estimated 65,000 visitors descended on the town between Friday and Sunday to enjoy more than 350 hours of free entertainment from 66 groups across 25 venues.

The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is set to take place from 17-19 June 2022.
