Emergency roadworks are causing traffic disruption near Truro with long delays and queuing traffic heading towards on A39 Tregolls Road.

Reports are coming in with regards to A39 Tregolls Road between A390 Union Hill and B3284 St Austell Street.

Go Cornwall Bus are reporting long delays to services in and out of Truro to Newquay and especially St Austell.

"Also St Mawes and other locations will continue as we begin the school and evening rush. This is the current road situation in Truro this afternoon due to the road works. Delays 30-45 minutes."

The delays are, according to Cornwall Council, due to emergency roadworks taking place on Tregolls Road.

In a tweeted updated, Cornwall Council said: "There are travel delays in Truro due to emergency roadworks being carried out by Wales & West Utilitieson Tregolls Road.

"The congestion is currently impacting bus services travelling to and from the city."

Congestion is reported at Tresillian, the Trafalgar Roundabout and on the A39 back to the Treffry Road Roundabout.

The delays due to the disruption have travel time in and around the area at about 40 minutes.

Scott Maddock, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Truro said:

“We have been working in the Tregolls Road area of Truro since yesterday (07 Nov) to repair a gas leak.

"This was caused by a third party damaging a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Cornwall Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we worked, traffic lights are in place along Tregolls Road, north of its junction with Beechwood Parc.

"These lights are manned during peak times.

“Our engineers have worked as safely and as quickly as possible following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and have fixed the leak.

"We now need to fill in the holes that we had dug and give the new road surface time to set, and so will need to keep our traffic lights in place.

"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to remove these lights and fully reopen the road this evening (08 November).

“We’re really sorry for the disruption this emergency work has caused, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents and road users while we carried out this essential repair.”

"Travel time is 40 minutes.
