After months of anticipation Poundstretcher is to open its doors in Helston tomorrow.

The discount store is opening in the former Original Factory Shop building in Coinagehall Street, which has been empty for the last three years.

However, last month it was confirmed that Poundstretcher was taking over the shop and was recruiting new staff.

The store has been undergoing a refit for the last four weeks, with Poundstretcher's distinctive red signage now on the front of the building.

Staff could be seen through the windows over the last few days, busily stocking the shelves ready for the launch.

It will now open its doors at 10am on Saturday (November 13).

A company spokesperson said that there is to be a voucher giveaway to customers to mark the opening day.

Rumours had been swirling for weeks, before official confirmation was given, that the building in Coinagehall Street was being turned into a discount shop.

Workmen at the site had remained tight-lipped, but the mystery was revealed when Poundstretcher posted under the careers section of its website: "New store opening - management team and sales assistants" and giving a Helston town centre postcode.

The company has recruited positions from store manager, deputy manager and key holders to part time sales assistants.

Poundstretcher Ltd operates shops around the country, with currently 400 stores located throughout the UK, employing over 5,000 employees.

Established in 1981, it offers a variety if discounted food, toiletries, garden essentials, and homeware brands, including furniture and electrical goods, as well as children's toys.

It currently employs more than 6,000 people nationwide.
