PORTHLEVEN’S resident Father Christmas faced a sticky situation this year when it was discovered he was in need of some new threads.

The team looking after the towns year-round light display at the harbour jumped straight on to the case and set up a fundraiser, not just for Santa’s suit, but also to help with the upkeep and maintenance of the Porthleven lights.

So far, the groups fundraiser has raised £1,138.

In an update posted to the groups social media group, organisers said: “We have a full weekend of fun planned for Friday December 3, 4, and 5.

“Starting with the annual light switch on, mulled wine and mince pies will be on sale in the Shipyard Market ,followed by Porthleven Band playing at 6.30pm with lights on at 7pm.

“On Saturday and Sunday Santa will be appearing in his grotto in the Shipyard Market.

“Huge thank you to all the people and businesses that have donated to our Crowdfunding page.

“We have been able to buy some new lights this year to really make the village really glow this Christmas.”

Suzanne Williams, one of the organisers, told The Packet: “We thought a crowdfunder would be a good way to raise funds for a new suit for Santa.

“So I put hat together and the response has been amazing from businesses in the village and individuals.

“It has had a pretty good response, we’re up to just short of £1,500, so it’s been amazing.

“It’s not all just from the crowdfunder, we’ve had some money handed in as well, so we’ve bought the Santa suit and we’ve also bought six new lights for the harbour.”

"I think everyone needs a good Christmas this year, and we definitely need the lights on, so it's all good, it's going to be very bright."
