A section of the main road between Helston and Penzance has reopened after one man was injured in a crash between two vans.

Police closed the road between Hill Top Garage at the top of Sithney Common Hill and the Stopgate turning to Porthleven.

A diversion was been put in place while the vehicles are recovered, with a police car at either end stopping traffic.

The back roads around Breage were said to be left very busy as cars found an alternative route via Sithney.

Devon and Cornwall Police issued a statement at around 9.15am to say: "We are currently dealing with an RTC on the A394 between Porthleven and Hill Top Garage.

"The road is currently closed whilst we clear the vehicles.

"Diversion in place. Sorry for any inconvenience.

"We will keep you updated."

It has since followed it up to add: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vans on the A394, near Helston, at around 8.25am today.

"One man was hurt but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.

"The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the situation.

"The scene was handed to Cornwall Highways.

"The log is now closed."

Traffic monitoring system INRIX said the A394 was closed both ways due to an accident involving two vans.

It was reported that there has been an oil spillage, which had closed the road from the B3304 turning to Porthleven to Gipsy Lane, Helston.
