Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses to a traffic collision that occurred in Hayle yesterday.

The main road through Hayle was closed through Wednesday evening (Nov 17) due to a serious incident involving a car and a pedestrian.

Police confirmed yesterday that a female pedestrian was taken to hospital following a collision in Fore Street, which took place just before 4pm.

She is understood to have been airlifted to hospital with injuries described as "serious."

One person described seeing "helicopter, ambulances and police everywhere."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Hayle.

"At approximately 3:50pm on Wednesday 17 November, a collision occurred on Fore Street, Hayle, Cornwall between a Land Rover Discovery and a 19-year-old woman from Redruth.

"As a result of the collision, the female pedestrian was conveyed to Derriford hospital with critical injuries.

"Local officers as well as officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended the scene and the road was closed for several hours whilst a forensic examination of the collision scene was conducted.
