A DEFUNCT drinking fountain hidden round the side of one of Falmouth's most iconic buildings could be moved to become a water bottle refill station.
Falmouth Town Council has applied to restore and relocate the old drinking fountain currently located on the East façade of the Old Custom House building in Falmouth.
The application is to relocate it to its new location on the front of the building on Arwenack Street. The Old Custom House building is a Grade II* listing and is currently occupied by The Stable Restaurant.
A design and access statement submitted to Cornwall Council says: "The re-siting and restoration of the defunct drinking fountain for reuse as a water bottle refill station contributes to Falmouth’s sense of heritage and is attractive to the local community and tourists alike.
"The restoration of such a community asset makes a positive contribution to the town's appearance and is also demonstrable of Falmouth Town Council's commitment to reducing plastic waste.
