A VILLAGE parish magazine has been honoured with a national award after being judged best for content.

Mylor and Flushing’s monthly magazine, called simply The Magazine, has been awarded two top slots in the National Parish Magazine Awards for 2021.

Improving on their success in 2018 and 2019, this year The Magazine was judged best for content in their size category and second overall among over 300 entries.

Run entirely by volunteers, The Magazine is published monthly and distributed free to readers throughout the parish of Mylor, for the benefit of the whole community.

The commended content includes regular articles on natural and local history, reports from clubs and churches, updates on other events and activities in the parish, and even a community novel. There are also plenty of periodic articles reflecting the wide variety of interests in such a vibrant community.

Celebrating her fourth anniversary as The Magazine’s editor, Melanie Franks said, “We are very proud of our little magazine, and particularly proud of not missing an edition throughout the pandemic. Our success comes from the support given by Mylor residents and the content they contribute.

"We also have a great editorial team, and between us we create and distribute a varied magazine every month. It’s fantastic that our efforts have been so highly regarded at the national level.

"Thank you to everyone: contributors, the editorial team, advertisers and distributors who make it all possible.”
