A town council has had to cancel a part of its Christmas celebrations due to bad weather.

Camborne Town Council have announced the lantern parade part of its Christmas in Camborne event has been cancelled.

The parade had originally been scheduled to take off from Rectory Road, Camborne from 5:45pm this Friday (Nov 26), with the Christmas lights switch on taking place immediately after.

However, weather reports have stated winds of up to 40mph are possible at the time of the event and, couple with the cold weather, the town council decided to cancel the event.

In an update posted to its social media page, Camborne Town Council said: "We are sorry to report we have had to make the difficult decision this afternoon to cancel the lantern parade element of the 'Christmas in Camborne' event on Friday November 26.

"Unfortunately the weather forecast predicts wind gusts of over 40mph combined with very cold weather that makes conditions unsafe to conduct the parade.

"Our primary concern is keeping everyone safe.

"The SWITCH-ON will continue on the Square with some slight adjustments (more information to follow).

"The Church will also be hosting its Christmas Tree Festival.

"We had to make the call today (Wednesday) to provide enough notice to schools, parents and contractors who all have involvement in the event.

"We hope to be back next year, with a full turn-out and perfect weather conditions.

"We thank you for your understanding.

"Schools have been informed and will be communicating to parents and carers."
