Following the end of this year's lifeguard season, the RNLI have released a video of five dramatic rescue missions that have taken place over the years.

Three of the five rescues in the video take place on areas of the coastline around Cornwall. At Chapel Porth, Portreath and Fistral Beach in Newquay.

One of the subjects included a pregnant woman Vicky who was caught by the tide while visiting with her husband at Chapel Porth. She said: "We came and visited for the day, me and my husband Marc went around this left headland here. The tide was out at the time.

"The tide came from nowhere, one minute it was up to our ankles, and then it was up to our knees. Before we knew it we had waves smacking us in the face and going over our heads.

"We actually said goodbye to each other, because we knew there was no way out. He got me up onto the rocks, I stood there and I was just waving my arms about in hope that someone would see us.

"There was a surfer here on Chapel Porth. She apparently reported to the lifeguards here that she had spotted two people in trouble and they launched a lifeboat out from Porthtowan.

"I can't put into words the relief that went through me when I saw that boat come round that corner and I thought 'we are going to be alright. You know, we are going to have our baby and everything is going to be alright'.

"Chris Lowry, he was one of the lifeguards, he jumped out of the boat and he came and got me down from where we were sat. He managed to get me into the boat, went back for Marc and managed to get Marc in the boat and that is when they took us back to Porthtowan where an Ambulance Van was waiting for us.

"They took us to Treliske Hospital, where they monitored the heartbeat which was amazing."

Vicky and Mark's daughter was born safely and they went on to have two more children.

In another segment from the video, two off-duty lifeguards attempting to rescue a surfer from heavy seas at Portreath can be seen being battered again and again by the waves, at one point going under entirely. Thankfully there is a happy ending.
