Now that the colder weather has finally arrived, the Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth has kicked off its new schedule for Friday evenings.

The Greenbank Hotel's new Cocktail Club is taking place in its harbourside bar and lounge every Friday, with the last Friday of every month featuring a musical guest.

The Packet's very own cocktail cognoscente Ryan Morwood went along to see what's in store for guests at the hotel's latest Friday night event.

After having survived the Arctic-like winds of Storm Arwen to reach the hotel, this reporter felt very much prepared for the task at hand.

Upon arrival we were shown to our seats, slap bang in the middle of the festively decorated Water's Edge bar which looks out across the Falmouth bay.

As well as the Cocktail Club, the evening was also the setting of the Greenbank's Sundowner Sessions, and serenading guests during our time there was Cornwall-based musician Ashley Harding who performed a number of acoustic covers throughout the evening.

The Greenbank's Cocktail Club features an eclectic selection of drinks and nibbles that guests can enjoy, from classics such as G&Ts and Martinis to Head of Mixology Holly's very own creations.

To the delight of this incredibly thirsty reporter, the Greenbank was also offering deals with its cocktails that included two for £10 on its £8 cocktails, two for £15 on its £9 cocktails and two for £20 on its £12 cocktails.

Starting us off was the Elderflower Fizz which, alongside elderflower, was made up with lemon juice, soda and Prosecco and had a refreshingly fruity taste complimenting its Prosecco kick.

After enjoying a few of Ashley Harding's covers of contemporary pop and older classics, it was time for another drink - this time the Apple Snap which contained Johnny Walker's Red Label whisky, sparkling apple juice and cinnamon, which helped get the festive juices flowing.

Accompanying the cocktail was a platter of nibbles that included wild mushroom arancini, chargrilled garlic and rosemary focaccia, crispy short rib, dusted salt and pepper squid and the hotel's very own 'posh chips.'

The chips were coated in truffle mustard and parmesan and were perfectly crispy, as was the squid which was cooked in saffron aioli and lemon.

The focaccia went down a treat with the balsamic oil it was served with and even more so when dipped in the short rib's truffle mustard mash which was prepared with a beef jus.

The wild mushroom arancini was served on a bed of rocket with a parmesan crisp and was probably the most forgettable dish, purely down to having been surrounded by other, stronger contenders.

The wild mushroom, while sounding exciting, didn't really come through and, to this reporter's taste buds, might as well have not been there at all.

Next up was the Quebec Sour which contained Rye whisky, maple syrup, blueberry, lemon, Ms Better's miraculous foamer and a red wine float and was a perfect accompaniment to the evening's increasingly colder weather.

The final cocktail to be enjoyed was the Greenbank Paloma, a fruity twist on a classic that included Tequila Blanco, pink grapefruit juice, lime, grapefruit syrup and smoked salt, a surprisingly festive tasting drink despite its lack of traditionally 'festive' ingredients.

Overall the Greenbank Hotel's Cocktail Club and Sundowner Session was an extremely pleasant way to spend an evening now that winter has finally arrived and the hotel's food and drink menu and friendly staff, alongside Ashley Harding's acoustic set made for a memorable night.
