A Cornish hotel has placed on a top 50 boutique hotels awards list.

The Idle Rocks, situated harbourside in the idyllic Cornish town of St Mawes, has said it is delighted to announce it has been awarded first position in Cornwall in the inaugural Top 50 Boutique Hotels Awards, and seventh position overall.

Top 50 Boutique Hotels was conceived in 2020 with the first ‘list reveal’ in November 2021.

Its aim is to provide a source to recognise the best boutique hotels in the UK and to help people discover these unique and diverse places to stay.

The list is voted for and chosen by more than 100 judges who are key people in the hospitality industry.

Judges come from leading hotel businesses, editors of media brands and travel writers who are geographically spread across the UK to ensure no regional bias.

Karen Richards, owner and designer of The Idle Rocks said: "We are delighted to have been placed seventh overall in the inaugural Top 50 Boutique Hotel Awards, and importantly for us first position in our home county of Cornwall.

"After what has been an exceptionally difficult 18 months for so many in the hospitality industry, this is a much-welcomed boost to morale for our outstanding team, without whom, such an achievement would not have been possible.

"When my husband David and I bought the building in 2010, our aim was to create a hotel that was young, fresh and relaxing.

"We wanted to make it a home from home, eliminating formalities and in this way differentiate ourselves from our more traditional competitors.

"To be able to veer away from the ‘norm’ and to have all the hard work and passion of everyone involved recognised in this way is an honour and makes the team’s efforts all the more worthwhile.”

Having navigated the waters of Covid-19, owners Karen and David Richards and their team say they are thrilled to have been given this special acknowledgement.

This accolade is also not the first to grace The Idle Rocks having previously won several other awards including Best Restaurant (Trencherman's Awards 2018), British Seafood Restaurant of the year (2018), Best Dine & Stay Experience (2019) and Best Hotel (Trencherman’s Awards 2021).
