A new Tunnel of Lights experience at a Cornish attraction has just received a Christmas upgrade with the addition of a previously unexplored tunnel.

This year’s instalment of the Shipwreck Treasure Museum at Charlestown’s popular Tunnel of Lights: Arctic Adventure event has been running since October half term and has just opened for its Christmas season.

Building on the success of creating the UK’s longest underground tunnel of festive lights over the past two years, this year’s immersive experience has seen an additional tunnel decorated with thousands of twinkling lights.

Organisers have described how visitors can "journey through the polar themed tunnels and encounter shipwrecks frozen in time, following the footsteps of adventurers through a world of ice, intrigue, and snowfall."

The attraction will also include giant gingerbread men, a life-size gingerbread house, a neon backdrop and oversized Christmas candy.

Lynné Raubenheimer, visitor engagement manager at the Shipwreck Treasure Museum said: "We can’t wait for families to join us and embrace our magical festive experience complete with our exciting newly added tunnel that has been decked with lights to within an inch of its life.

"There’s also our fun Christmas themed area with lots of festive props and scenes for the young and young at heart to interact with.

"We have limited capacity with timed entry slots which must be pre-booked to ensure our visitors enjoy a safe time exploring our winter wonderland with us this Christmas and New Year.

"The feedback has been amazing from those who visited us during our autumn season and tickets are selling out quickly for our Christmas run."

The museum also claimed that its special adults-only evening sessions, which include a glass of Prosecco, mulled wine, beer, or a soft drink, were proving popular.

The sessions are held on selected evenings until Thursday, December 23.

The Tunnel of Lights will be open to the public daily throughout December until Sunday, January 9 2022 from 10am to 8pm, except on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when it will close at 2pm and 5pm respectively.

The attraction is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Admission will include access to the museum and tickets can be booked in advance from the Shipwreck Treasure Museum's website.
