CORONAVIRUS cases in an area of Falmouth have risen within the space of two weeks, and is among the areas of the county with the highest Covid-19 cases.

An interactive map, which uses Public Health England data, shows how many people have tested positive for the virus in each area of the county over the seven-day period up to Tuesday, November 30.

Public Health England breaks down the numbers of coronavirus cases into neighbourhoods called 'Middle Super Output Areas' (MSOAs), which are smaller than council wards and based on population rather than geographical area.

The interactive map allows users to type in their postcode and see how many cases were reported in their area and if it has increased or decreased from the week before. The darker the colour on the image, the more positive test results have been recorded.

In the seven days up to Tuesday, November 30, Falmouth West & South has reported 77 cases in the area, an increase on 63 on November 23 and 39 on November 16 when case numbers were falling.

The active cases in the town have risen by 22.2 per cent and have reported a rolling case rate of 940 per 100,000 people which is above the case rate for the Cornwall Council area of 564.4 cases.

Falmouth West & South has one of the highest rolling case rate of any areas in the Cornwall Council territory and higher than locations in Truro, Redruth, Camborne and Helston.

The highest is St Columb Major & St Mawgan in Cornwall reporting 129 cases.

Other areas where cases are high include Mylor Bridge and Frogpool which has recorded a 30.4% increase in cases, which equates to 30 new cases, an increase of seven on the previous seven days before November 30. The rate per 100,000 people is 482.8.
