A Cornish brewery is seeing out the year in style after having cooped yet more awards for its beers.

Rock-based Sharp’s Brewery’s Atlantic Cask has been named gold medal winner in the International Cask Beer category at the International Brewing and Cider Awards 2021 and bronze medal winner for Atlantic Bottle in the International Small Pack Ale category.

The brewery has won a number of awards recently and the International Brewing Awards are seen as one of the most established of the award bodies in the industry, considered by the team as the ‘Oscars of the brewing and cider world.’

A total of 138 medal and trophy winners were announced at the competition, which took place in November at the National Brewery Centre in Burton-upon-Trent.

Brewers and cider-makers from 24 countries received accolades and in total, 126 medals and 12 trophies were awarded to beers and ciders from all over the world, including entrants from Australia, China, Japan, Luxembourg, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, USA and the UK.

Judging took place between November 16– 18 November at the National Brewery Centre in Burton-upon-Trent, UK and comprised working professionals in the brewing and cider making industries from across the globe, led by Chair of Beer Judging, Rob McCaig and Chair of Cider Judging, Gabe Cook.

The judging panel was chosen to reflect the current expertise in the tasting and commercial evaluation of beers and ciders going into the market and judges blind tasted many hundreds of beers and ciders submitted by brewers and cider-makers from around the world.

Sharp’s Brewery’s head brewer, Aaron McClure said: "I am so delighted that we have taken home two awards at the prestigious International Brewing Awards.

"We’ve had lots of success with awards this year, but the International Brewing Awards are the cream of the crop.

"One of the oldest running brewing competitions in the world, it features very few categories but does capture cask ale, which most awards do not.

"It is truly wonderful to be recognised for our cask beer by such an esteemed body.

"In addition, it is judged solely by professional brewers and operates on an ‘invite only’ basis.

"Only three medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze) are awarded per category so we feel very privileged.

"We really look forward to collecting our medals at the Awards luncheon next year."

Ruth Evans MBE, Director of the International Brewing & Cider Awards, said: "I’d like to personally thank all the judges as well as all the brewers and cider-makers who entered their products and make this year’s Awards one to remember, and we’re delighted to reward the best of them with the recognition they so truly deserve.

"We’d like to congratulate Sharp’s Brewery on their achievements at this year’s Awards and we’re thrilled to be able to provide them with the recognition they so truly deserve."
