People are being given a chance to look around a new care home built on the site of a former pub in Falmouth.

Barchester Healthcare said Falmouth Court on Dracaena Avenue is now open for visitors.

The home is due to welcome its first residents at the end of January, for residential, respite and specialised dementia care.

It has been built on the site of the former Four Winds pub in Dracaena Avenue, which was badly damaged in a fire in January 2017.

Outline planning permission for the home was granted in October 2017 after an earlier application to build 153 student beds was rejected.

Work began on the new 66-bed care home in September 2019.

The home is said to include a café to socialise in, spa bathrooms, en-suite bedrooms with smart TVs, a choice of lounges, chef-cooked meals and in-house hair salon.

Barchester Healthcare said it was "committed to providing a premium caring experience."

The company said: "We take pride in getting to know each of our residents to provide tailored care and support, ensuring dignity and choice in every aspect of daily life.

"Staff at Falmouth Court will celebrate life and ensure there is plenty on offer for all tastes and abilities. Once open, the home will provide a dedicated Life Enrichment programme which includes a choice of daily activities so that residents can continue to do the things they love, try something new and above all keep the enjoyment in every day."

It added that the well-being and safety of residents and staff were its "greatest priorities", with all staff vaccinated, and the home asking that all its new residents are vaccinated before they move in.

Home services advisor Hugh Dickinson said: “We are thrilled our newly refurbished home is ready to welcome visitors. It’s a wonderful way for people to come and find out about the exceptional care we provide, and meet the friendly team who will be looking after our residents.

“Personalised care really is at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking forward to meeting new friends from within the local community and to welcoming our new residents and their loved ones.”
