Enquiries are ongoing after a fire in Helston was referred to police after fire services suspected arson might have been the cause.

The fire took place in the open between Porthleven Road and Park View Road in Helston at around 10:40pm on Wednesday, December 22.

Fire crews discovered a fire involving a trailer upon arrival and one appliance from Helston wearing breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet extinguished the fire.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service suspected that arson may have been the cause of the blaze and the incident has been handed over the Devon and Cornwall Police.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "One appliance from Helston responded to this incident.

"On arrival a fire involving a trailer was discovered. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

"Arson is suspected as the cause and the incident has been handed over to the Police.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified by the fire service of a suspected arson in Park View Road, Helston, at around 10.40pm on Wednesday 22 December.

"This followed a blaze involving a trailer.

"Enquiries are ongoing.
