AN application to replace an existing 'dilapidated' ice cream kiosk at a popular beach cafe has been unanimously recommended for approval by councillors.

At a meeting of Falmouth Town Council's planning committee last week councillors heard the application from the Maenporth Cafe on Maenporth Beach.

The owners want to replace the dilapidated ‘Portakabin’ style ice cream kiosk next to the Maenporth Cafe with a timber clad shipping container with ice cream server, storage and a desk space.

They also want to replace the existing steel and tarpaulin canopy with timber framed canopy and replace the existing storage shed behind the café with a lockable shipping container clad in timber.

Alan Jewell said: "The container they have, as they have said, is pretty dilapidated and it's just a tidy up they want. I don't have a problem with it myself."

Councillors voted to support the application, with the final decision to be made by Cornwall Council.
