The daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly remain high with the number of new people testing positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, up from yesterday's figure of 793 to 865.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The latest data shows a combined 3284 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Thursday, December 23, up on yesterday's total of 3,089.

The weekly case rate average has risen to 570.6 cases per 100,000, up from the 536.7 average yesterday. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 80,941.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 183,037 new cases, a big jump on 129,471cases yesterday. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 12,559,926.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to December 22 - the most recent data given by the government updated weekly, there were 28 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, one in a ventilation beds, and two patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals.

National healthcare update show a total of 8,246 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Wednesday, December 22, the most recent data, with 842 in ventilation beds.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic remains at 355 with the most recent death on Sunday, December 19.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic is at 289. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust the figure stayed at 66.

The government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – stands at 629 deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case with three new deaths recorded yesterday.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and remains at 718 from data available this week. It shows that six new deaths occurred in the week ending Friday, December 10.

The overall UK figures show 57 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 148,089. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Tuesday, December 28, a total of 51,705,406 people in the UK had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 47,289,628 had their second dose. A total of 32,696,064 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall 457,818 had their first jab while 428,223 had their second and 325,737 are reported to have had their third dose or booster.
