The daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for yesterday (January 1, 2022) show 976 new people testing positive, down slightly from Friday's high figure of 1,098.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The latest data shows a combined 3,912 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Sunday, December 26, up on Friday's total of 3,521.

The weekly case rate average has risen to 679.7 cases per 100,000 people. For this figure the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 83,728.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 162,572 new cases, a fall on Friday's figure of 189,846 cases. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 13,100,458.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, December 28 - the most recent data given by the government updated weekly, there were 25 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, one in a ventilation beds, and three patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals.

National healthcare update show a total of 11,918 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Wednesday, December 29, the most recent data, with 868 in ventilation beds.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic now stands at 357.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic is now at 291 with two more deaths reported with one on Boxing Day and one on December 28. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust the figure stayed at 66.

The government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – stands at 634 deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case with one new death recorded on Saturday.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and remains at 728 from data available this week. It shows that ten new deaths occurred in the week ending Friday, December 17.

The overall UK figures show 154 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result. Down on 203 on Friday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 148,778. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Friday, December 31, a total of 51,771,476 people in the UK had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 47,412,342 had their second dose. A total of 33,927,775 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall 458,414 had their first jab while 429,046 had their second and 336,267 are reported to have had their third dose or booster.
