One woman from Helston's new year celebrations certainly went with a bang when she lost control of her car at traffic lights and ploughed into a pub a couple of hours before midnight.

Robyn Gray, 22, was driving home when she lost control of her vehicle which went into the side of The Red Lion pub in Church Street, Helston at about 10pm on New Year's Eve as revellers were inside partying.

She suffered a dislocated bone in her foot and is currently in hospital although it is hoped she'll be released today.

Her mother Diane Thomas said her daughter was literally around corner from her flat as she were heading home and as she came around corner she lost lost control of the car.

She told the Packet: "Just lucky she didn't hit the revellers outside the pub. She swerved her car to avoid the public.

"She only just bought the estate less than a week ago, it was a two litre Mondeo,and maybe it were too big for her to handle.

"She is doing OK apart from broken bones in foot and had a dislocated ankle which has been fixed by doctors.. she will probably have a cast on for next few months."

Writing in Facebook she said: "Don't think local pub were too pleased with their new renovations to their wall," she posted on Facebook. "She going to be wearing the plaster cast herself instead."

"She is currently in hospital,with a dislocated bone in her foot,not sure if it will need operated on. Unfortunately I am not allowed in with her due to Covid restrictions, so Robyn came off lucky in fact she didn't seriously hurt herself or anyone else, car is a right (sic) off, she only got car a few days ago."

She said her daughter had had an operation to re-align bones in her foot and was going to need a plaster cast on for several weeks probably.
