A big crowd turned out to welcome home two Hayle and Camborne boys who had set out on an epic from John O Groats on two "Monkey Bikes" to raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Austin James, and Jago Carveth have so far raised over £5,000 since setting out from the tip of Scotland on the mini motorbikes on December 29 last year before being escorted home from Cornwall Services by a phalanx of bikers. You can donate to the GoFundMe page here

Posting pictures of their arrival at Land's End on January 2 they said: "We made it! Absolutely overwhelmed by the amount of support we got and the amount of people waiting for us! A massive thanks for every photo, comment and encouragement towards our ride.

"A big thank you too Mark James who anxiously stayed within 100 miles of us with all of our spares and took us to our starting point, we are very grateful. We have raised well over £2,700 on our go fund me page and the money we collected, you never know when you or anyone you know could use the services Cornwall Air Ambulance have to offer.

"Such an amazing week and Words can’t describe how happy and grateful I am with all the support we received. Thank you all very very much. Where we heading next Jago Carveth?"

Congratulating the boys on their epic journey, Martin Jennings Memorial Run organiser and bike enthusiast David Saunby said: "I would just like to pay a special tribute to Cornish boys Austin James, and Jago Carveth who today finished their epic journey from John O Groats to Lands End on their little Monkey Bikes in aid of the Cornwall Air Ambulance, raising nearly £3,000 to date.

"I was privileged to follow them down behind an escort of bikers from Chiverton Roundabout, and to be there at the finish, where a big crowd were waiting to welcome them home.

"Cornwall should be proud of them. Congratulations boys."

Austin and Jago are rode over 1,000 miles from John O Groats back down to Land's End on two Monkey Bikes, motorcycles with a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine that can vary in size between 50cc and 90cc, and that has a seat height of less than 22 inches.

It is named for the crouching, supposedly monkey-like, position the rider has to assume when sitting on such a small motorcycle.
