The wet weather has got the better of a lot of pitches on Cornwall today resulting in several matches being postponed due to the waterlogged conditions.

Pitch inspections took place early on Saturday morning, and some on Friday night and a decision was made that the playing surfaces for the match were not fit for purpose.

The rain was so persistent that every game in the South West Peninsula League West Division for this game week has been postponed.

It had been set to be an exciting list of matches too with league leaders Falmouth Town taking on fifth place Dobwalls, plus a third vs fourth clash at Underlane as Wendron hosted Liskeard.

Penryn Athletic's fixture with Newquay was already postponed due to positive covid cases in the Athletic squad.

Helston Athletic's Kellaway Park failed to withstand the rain too with the Toolstation Western League side being forced to reschedule their home game against Wellington. They haven't had a home match since a 1-0 win over Shepton Mallet on November 20.

Mousehole's away trip to Clevedon was also rained off early doors on Saturday.

Truro City have also been forced to postpone their match against Salisbury FC at their temporary home of Bolitho Park due to the state of the pitch.

In the rugby Penryn RFC were forced to postpone their matches. Both their first team and the Saracens side were set to grace the Memorial Ground but will play their fixtures at a later date due to a waterlogged surface.

Falmouth Eagles game against Wadebridge Camels and Truro RFC's match against Honiton were already postponed due to Covid.
