The latest daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for today (January 8, 2022) show that show 662 new people testing positive, up from yesterday's figure of 588.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The latest data shows a combined 6,429 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Monday, January 3, up on yesterday's total of 6,122.

The weekly case rate average has risen once again to 1,117.1 cases per 100,000 people from 1,063.7 yesterday. For this figure, the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 89,760.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK shows 146,390 new cases, down from yesterday's figure of 178,250 cases. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 14,333,794.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, January 4 - the most recent data given by the government updated weekly, there were 30 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, three in ventilation beds, and eight patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals.

National healthcare update shows a total of 18,454 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Thursday, January 6, the most recent data, with 868 in ventilation beds.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic now stands at 358.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic stands at 292 with another death reported on January 4. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust the figure stayed at 66.

The government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – stands at 635 deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and remains at 735 from data available this week. It shows that ten new deaths occurred in the week ending Friday, December 24.

The overall UK figures show 313 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic stand at 150,057. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Friday, January 7, a total of 51,919,815 people in the UK had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 47,632,483 had their second dose. A total of 35,273,945 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall, 459,174 had their first jab while 430,190 had their second and 345,839 are reported to have had their third dose or booster.
