A DRINK driver had such a high alcohol reading in his blood that he was given a 14 week suspended prison sentence and banned from driving for four years.

Ryan Jay Green, 45, of Flat 3 Mills Court, Wendron near Helston had already pleaded guilty to the drink driving charge when his case came before Truro Magistrates' Court last month.

Magistrates heard that Green was stopped by police in Morlaix Avenue, Truro on Bonfire Night, November 5, last year. When breathalysed by officers he was found to have 154 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Because the offence was so serious, magistrates committed Green to prison for 14 weeks suspended for 12 months and ordered that he must comply with a supervision order for the same period. Reason: Offence so serious. He must also comply with a six month curfew with electronic monitoring ending on June 15:

The curfew details arer that he must remain at his home address daily: from 10pm through to 6am on Tuesday Thursdays and Fridays and also from 6pm to 6am on Mondays, Wednesdays and He is also required to have mental health treatment under the direction of We Are With You for 12 sessions.

He was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128 and to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for four year as it was obligatory for the offence. Disqualification would be reduced by 48 weeks if by October 6, 2024 the defendant satisfactorily completes a course approved by the Secretary of State. The cost of the course will not exceed £250. His driving record was also endorsed.

Magistrates' took Green's guilty plea taken into account when imposing sentence.
