A HELSTON man who drove his high performance Mercedes into a lamppost and ran away has been disqualified from driving for six months.

Marcus Alexander Shaw, 32, of 42 Tenderah Road, Helston, admitted being in an accident in his high performance white Mercedes AMG that was only two years old on May 30 last year.

Shaw pleaded guilty to being driver of a vehicle which failed to stop after a road accident, give his name and address and vehicle details when his case was heard on January 13 last week.

The court heard police received a report of a collision between a car and a lamppost on the A394, Helston, at around 7.50pm on Wednesday March 10, with two male occupants leaving the scene on foot.

The accident closed the road for around two hours, while police attended and the vehicle was recovered.

The collision is reported to have happened at around 8pm with two men leaving the scene on foot, according to police.

Shaw subsequently voluntarily attended the police station and was reported to court for driving without due care and attention and failing to report an RTC.

The full charge reads that Shaw, being the driver the white Mercedes AMG registration SO19HRZ owing to the presence of which on a road, namely Tyacke Road, an accident occurred whereby damage was caused to property forming part of the land on which the road was situated or land adjacent to it, namely a lamp post belonging to Cornwall Highways, failed to stop and on being required by a person having reasonable grounds for so requiring failed to give your name and address and the name and address of the owner and the identification marks of the vehicle.

As well as the six month disqualification, Shaw was also fined fined £120, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £34, pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. A total of £239. His licence was also endorsed. His guilty plea taken into account when imposing sentence. A D20 notification was sent to the DVLA
