Falmouth Town Manager Andrew Westgarth thought his side ‘dominated’ the game in their Cornwall Senior Cup Quarter Final 4-0 win over Newquay.

Jack Bray-Evans returned to face his old club and got on the scoresheet as well as goals from both centre backs James Ward and Toby Clark plus a substitute strike from Jack Bowyer.

Speaking to the Packet Westgarth said: “It was an emotionally charged game, but overall I thought we dominated the game for large spells mainly in the first half. We got off to a great start with Wardy (James Ward) scoring a textbook header then Jack (Bray-Evans) getting his customary goal and that really settled us down.

“They didn’t lay a glove on us in the first half, in the second half they had a lot of territory and a lot of the ball but I would say on the positive side of that we nullified everything they threw at us an they didn’t really have anything on goal other than a free kick which Barnsey (Ryan Barnes) made a brilliant save from.

“As the game went on the sending off swung it back to us. Jack (Bray-Evans) was going to put the ball into the empty net and Whippy (Tom Whipp) saved it with his hands, then we go on to score two more goals and we missed loads of chances. We created so many chances in the last 15/20 minutes.

"There was a great atmosphere, great crowd it was great to get through. Both centre backs scoring, the clean sheet and getting Jack Bowyer back on the pitch which has been a rarity for us this season was really pleasing.”

Bray-Evans and Tom Moxham were both playing against their former side and Westgarth was especially pleased with the way they coped with the pressure of the big occasion: “They are big game players, I was immensely proud with the way they conducted themselves, a lot had been written about them both going back especially Jack (Bray-Evans) considering the time he spent at Newquay but I thought the way he conducted himself was a credit to himself and Falmouth Town football club.

“Jack answered the critics in the best possible way by scoring a goal but from a Falmouth Town perspective he is on great form and is scoring all the time so it is pleasing for us.”

Town have been tied against Dobwalls for the Semi Final of the tournament on and Westgarth anticipates it to be another testing fixture, he said: “I think anybody that is in this stage of the competition deserves respect. Dobwalls is always a tough game.

“They pulled out an amazing victory over Millbrook considering they were on a ten game unbeaten run. They are not to be taken lightly I think it will be a tough game, but we can’t look too far ahead we just have to take each game as it comes.”
