An Penryn-based author has announced he will be releasing his new book next week.

Nick Griffiths, who lives in Penryn with his wife, has announced his new book 'DeadStar' will be released on Tuesday, January 25.

DeadStar is a fictional music oral history set during punk and New Wave in London, which aims to bring to life the 'scuzz and brilliance' of the times.

The book tells the story of a failed musician, Garth Tyson, as told by his former bandmates, family members, colleagues, music-biz execs and the occasional fan.

Garth vanished after playing Glastonbury ‘85 with his band, Speed of Life, and was never seen again.

DeadStar was inspired by Dylan Jones’ oral history, David Bowie: A Life, with vigorous nods to (Legs McNeill & Gillian McCain’s) Please Kill Me and Spinal Tap.

A former music journalist on Sounds and Select from 1989 to 1992, through whom he met Bowie and interviewed The Stone Roses in the Arctic Circle, Nick later spent a decade writing features and reviews for the Radio Times and Daily Mail, while freelancing for the likes of The Times Magazine, The Times and The Guardian.

DeadStar is his first music book having previously written the Doctor Who-based memoir; Dalek I Loved You (Orion 2007).

DeadStar is published via New Generation Publishing and will be available as a paperback and eBook from January 25 2022.
