The latest daily Covid-19 case figures in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for today indicate 624 new people testing positive, down slightly on yesterday's figure of 632.

The weekly total number of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result (either lab-reported or lateral flow device) is on a five-day delay.

The latest data shows a combined 4,073 people testing positive in the seven days leading up to last Wednesday, January 19, up on yesterday's total of 3,992.

The weekly case rate average has risen again to 707.7 cases per 100,000 people, up from 693.6 yesterday. For this figure, the government uses the mid-2020 estimates for the permanent population of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The overall total of cases in Cornwall since the start of the pandemic now stands at 99,396.

The daily number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK is 88,447 new cases, up on yesterday's figure of 74,799 cases. This takes the total of cases since the start of the pandemic to 15,953,685.

When it comes to recent hospital admissions in Cornwall up to Tuesday, January 18 – the most recent data given by the government updated weekly - there were 42 patients with the virus in Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust hospitals, one in ventilation beds, and 24 patients in Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust hospitals.

National healthcare update shows a total of 17,523 patients with the virus in UK hospitals as of Friday, January 21, the most recent data, with 640 in ventilation beds - a fall on the previous update.

The combined number of Covid-19 related deaths in total in the Duchy’s hospitals since the start of the pandemic still stands at 363.

The total number recorded at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust since the start of the pandemic stands at 297 with a further death reported on January 19. At the Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust the figure stayed at 66.

The government’s update shows the overall number of deaths in Cornwall – including deaths in care homes and other settings – remains at 650 deaths in the 28 days since a positive Covid case, after rising by five on Saturday, January 22.

The total number of deaths in Cornwall simply with Covid-19 on the death certificate is updated weekly and sits at 742 from data available this week. It shows that four new deaths occurred in the week ending Friday, January 7.

The overall UK figures show 56 more people having died within 28 days of their first positive test result, significantly lower than 297 on Saturday.

Total UK deaths within 28 days since the start of the pandemic now stands at 175,256. These figures include people in care home and other settings.

Up to Saturday, January 22, a total of 52,236,574 people in the UK had their first Covid-19 vaccination dose, while 48,195,145 had their second dose. A total of 36,941,059 have had their booster jab or third dose.

In Cornwall, 461,219 had their first jab while 433,431 had their second and 357,341 are reported to have had their third dose or booster.
