Falmouth Town crashed out of the Walter C Parson League Cup on Saturday after falling to a 2-0 defeat against leaders of the South West Peninsula League East Okehampton Argyle.

Town were a goal behind within five minutes when Ben Bickle flicked a Luke Mortimore centre into the back of the net. The hosts doubled their lead shortly after half time when Harvey Newman headed in a Luke Alden set piece.

Falmouth's chances of getting back into the match were dealt a significant blow when midfielder Andreas Calleja-Stayne was brandished a red card later in the second half.

Speaking to the Packet Falmouth Town Manager Andrew Westgarth felt that the performance his side put in warranted the defeat, he said: "We got what we deserved, no complaints from me. Unfortunately, we weren't good enough on the day.

"I thought we started alright, I wouldn't say we were terrible in the first half we conceded an early goal which knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit.

"Then we had a few half chances, (Luke) Brabyn had a couple of chances they have had a few chances, it was quite nip and tuck really. Barnsey (Ryan Barnes) made a vital save just before half time and I thought at the time that might have given us a lifeline or a wake-up call.

"Then they score just after half time after a sustained bit of pressure and then we never really found anything in the locker to get us back into the game. We tried changing formation a couple of times, we went to a 4-4-2, we tried personnel changes.

"The Andreas Calleja-Stayne sending off didn't help then we are down to ten men then it is almost a little desperate. We were launching balls into no man's land, our short game was poor. Just overall all credit to Okehampton it was just a really bad day at the office for us.

"A semi-positive of it is that we can focus on the league but I don't think if we'd have progressed it would have distracted us too much. It would have hurt more if it was in the later stages for instance the quarter-finals or semi-finals but never the less it is still a painful exit."

Westgarth again praised the loyal support of the F-Troop who backed Falmouth in their droves for the cup match: "After the game as a neutral if you had walked into the clubhouse you would have thought we had won, I know I have said it time and time again but Saturday just reaffirms how good they (the fans) are, win or lose.

"We haven't had many games where we have lost, but Saturday really highlighted how good they are."

After two weeks of cup action, Falmouth are back to the South West Peninsula League on Saturday when they face Bodmin Town at Priory Park. Town have defeated Bodmin twice this season. 4-3 in the league thanks to a late goal from Calleja-Stayne (who is now suspended for three matches) and a 3-5 win in the Second Round of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
