A "prolific" thief has found himself in prison after targeting two multinational chain stores.

Michael Sean Rowe, whose address was given as care of Her Majesty's Prison Exeter, appeared before magistrates in Truro last Tuesday for sentencing for a number of crimes.

The 34-year-old initially pleaded not guilty to stealing three packets of chicken fillets and five packets of cheese, worth a combined £40, from Iceland in Camborne on January 20 last year.

However, he was later found guilty after a trial on January 7 this year.

For this he was sentenced to six weeks in prison, at the hearing on January 18.

Rowe had previously admitted also stealing cosmetics worth £51.58 from Camborne Superdrug on February 5 last year.

For this Rowe was committed to prison for four weeks at the same sentencing.

And he was also sentenced to two further offences.

For having 0.11g of cocaine on him in Camborne on January 12 last year he was sentenced to four weeks in prison, while for using threatening or abusive words or behaviour, likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, on the same date, he was given no separate penalty.

In total Rowe was sentence to 14 weeks in prison.

Magistrates said prison was merited as the offence was so serious because of his "prolific and persistent record".

Rowe must also pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £128 surcharge to fund victim services.

A Criminal Behaviour Order was also made for two years, as of January 18, 2022. This prevents Rowe from: acting in a manner that causes or is likely to cause obstruction or nuisance directly or indirectly to anyone in Cornwall; remaining in any commercial premises in Cornwall if asked to leave by a member of staff, security guard, owner or responsible person; loitering directly outside, attempting to enter, or entering Camborne Iceland Store, Camborne Aldi, Camborne Tesco and Camborne Superdrug.

Magistrates ordered that the cocaine be forfeited and destroyed.
