It has been confirmed that the Falmouth Spring Flower Show WILL be going ahead this year at the Princess Pavilion although no further details have been given.

The event will take place at the Princess Pavilion, Gyllyngdune Gardens, Falmouth on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27 (Mothering Sunday).

There has not been a Spring Flower Show since 2019 when the Covid epidemic forced its cancellation two years running.

The show had run continuously, but for the war years, since it was first opened in 1910 by Queen Victoria’s daughter Princess Christian.

Cornwall’s oldest flower show celebrated its 110th birthday on March 28 and 29, 2020 – thanks to Falmouth Town Council who stepped in after the organising committee retired.

Once the most popular spring flower show in the country, special excursion trains from Paddington brought visitors to the Princess Pavilion, Gyllyngdune Gardens where it is still held today.

The show had been run by volunteers, some of whom have spent a lifetime as exhibitors and organisers.

Daffodil grower and former show president Ron Scamp entered his first blooms in 1971, while Reg and Pearl Sleeman, the former show’s chairman and treasurer, together totted up over 70 years commitment. The whole organising committee stepped down in 2020 and the event has now been taken over by the town council which also runs the pavilion.

It was not possible to recruit a new committee.
